Heralds of Good News is a Missionary Society of Apostolic Life, founded by (late) Very Rev. Dr. Jose Kaimlett in the Diocese of Eluru, India, on 14 October 1984. It became an Institute of Pontifical Right on May 5, 1999. The specific aim of the Society is the promotion of vocations to the priesthood, the training of seminarians and the supply of hardworking and saintly priests to the dioceses in India and abroad that experience a shortage of priests due to the lack of local vocations. At present, there are 496 permanent members and 290 students at different levels of formation. As part of the reorganisation of the Society, 5 provinces were erected, namely: 1. Mother Teresa Province; 2. St. Paul Province; 3. Mary Queen of Apostles Province; 4. St. John Paul II Province; 5. Divine Mercy Province.
Besides fulfilling its charism, Heralds of Good News undertakes various charitable ministries such as:
1. Education of the Poor: As education for all is our policy, most of our schools are situated in rural areas. Children are given concessions depending on their economic status. The poor are our concern.
2. Prison Ministry: Our priests cooperate with various dioceses and organisations that help prisoners to pick up the bits and pieces of their broken lives to make a whole that is perfect and holy, their moral life.
3. Concern for the Poor: We help the poor when they approach us for their basic needs such as food, clothing and safe drinking water and shelter.
4. Societal Concern: We respond strongly to the needs of the society around us. Our response to the COVID-19 pandemic and other ongoing charitable activities during natural calamities such as floods, landslides, and others are witness to it.
